About Us: A definition of Shake the Bard Theatre Company

What is Shake the Bard?

Jabari Morgan and Gina Montagna in William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew
Shake the Bard is a non-profit theatre company based out of Arcata, California. With feet firmly planted in the past, and eyes on the future, we seek to bring the classics to a new generation. Our mission is two-fold: (1) to produce quality theatrical productions which showcase the human element in classical works (2) to provide year-round academic education and instruction in the performing arts, working in local schools and offering a summer academy where students can learn the elements of theatrical production.

Who are the Company Members?

At this point, most of our permanent company is composed of volunteers. There are about twenty members of our company who are cast in shows on a rotational basis. Most of our auditions are open to the public and less than 10% of the roles are generally pre-cast. Our permanent company also includes an improvisational theatre troupe and educational branches spread out across Humboldt County.
